"Improve the efficiency of iceberg lettuce packaging"

In order to meet the needs of growers in the market to reduce labor, speed up packaging and reduce maintenance costs when packaging iceberg lettuce, Redpack Packaging Machinery’s engineers have been working closely with growers around the world to propose a way to wrap the cabbage in a Tight packaging with shelf life-always in the field.

"In the UK and Germany, iceberg lettuce is mainly wrapped in wrap-around packaging. Open handbags are also used in the German market," explains Rick Briston, Redpack's business development manager. "We have developed a machine called NTS-BMI, which is designed and manufactured to optimize iceberg packaging, including gentle handling of the product to minimize damage to the lettuce. The machine has a unique V-shaped feeding device , Which can hold the product and prevent it from rolling, which is especially important when running at fast packaging speeds and on-site rigs. It also has an overhead paddle system that stabilizes the product during transfer to ensure that the product is properly placed on the film."

When packaging products on mobile devices, stability is critical. This is just one of the positive attributes of NTS-BMI. Rick continued: “The packaging speed of lettuce can be higher than traditional winding packaging machines, and the packaging materials are not limited to the type. Film or supplier.” It can also increase the output per person per hour.

"Like all our machines, Redpack NTS-BMI aims to minimize maintenance costs and reduce the amount of labor. That's why we also offer the option of integrating a labeling machine and printer on the machine, which can apply labels during packaging. And print on the film-all these steps can be combined into one step, instead of using manual labor to further the line. Even the compressor that provides the air supply, the'lazy susan' turntable and the packaging rack are integrated in the base frame of the lifting chassis, so The entire packaging line can be easily lifted and moved as a whole. Growers have seen significant improvements in efficiency and substantial cost savings."

The ability to combine all these steps immediately after harvesting agricultural products eliminates double processing: "Lettuce is packaged in the freshest state, without additional labor and environment, otherwise it may cause quality degradation or pollution. This has a significant impact on the shelf life. Positive impact."

Iceberg lettuce is not the only product that can be packaged in the field. "Little gems, celery, cabbage, Chinese leaves and Roman lettuce are some other vegetables. Generally speaking, any product with a low content, such as whole head salad, can be easily harvested and prepared in the field."
