AM King has begun construction of a distribution center in Southern Texas for GAB Operations, LLC (GAB) headquartered in Mexico. When the new 45,590 square foot facility is completed, it will provide greater cold storage capacity for fresh produce and will become a hub for the company's US and Canadian customers. The project is scheduled to be completed in October.

GAB was established in Guanajuato, Mexico more than 30 years ago, specializing in the production, development, marketing and distribution of fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits. Items include broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and other green leafy vegetables, various lettuce, celery, sweet corn, snow peas, pumpkin, sweet mini peppers, berries, etc. In addition, the company operates under the brand Mr. Lucky and is one of the largest garlic and organic tomato producers in Mexico. It prepares fresh-cut products for food service customers, and provides customers with pre-packaged salads and private label products. Many Americans produce clothing. Fifteen years ago, the company initiated internal food safety standards and developed its own documentation and traceability program.

GAB’s Laredo distribution center will be located in the Pinnacle Industrial Center, just minutes from the Rio Grande and Laredo International Airport. It is adjacent to Mission Produce's new 262,000 square foot green space maturation, processing and distribution center, an AM King project that will be completed this summer.

"We are very happy to work with another well-known agricultural product company in Laredo," said Dan Crist, vice president of AM King. "Our food industry expertise, coupled with our record of successfully completing cold storage and distribution facilities, puts us in a good position to design and build this project and serve as a resource for new international customers."

GAB Vice President Miguel Usabiaga emphasized the importance of quality and exceeding customer expectations. "We have always worked hard to exceed our customers' expectations, which is why we decided to work with AM King's design-build professionals. We look forward to the successful completion of the project."

GAB President Jaime Usabiaga said: “The GAB project will not only house the refrigerated warehouses and offices of the GAB Laredo distribution center, but also a truck driver’s quarters, where our fleet drivers can rest before continuing their route.” In the design phase , AM King cooperates with GAB to ensure that the layout and flow of the space meet current and future needs. As part of the process, we also include a forced air cooler, which can quickly and safely lower the temperature of the product, and combines different vertical straightener lengths to improve cargo flexibility.

The scope of work for the project includes 7,717 square feet of cold storage space ranging from 34-45 degrees; a 13,030 square feet, -10 degree freezer; 2,502 square feet of 75 degree dry storage room; 10 dock locations and 4,570 square feet of office space space. In addition, there is an 82,000 square foot concrete truck apron near the building. The exterior of the warehouse will be constructed using insulated metal panels (IMP), but the office part will use EIFS/stucco finishes and decorative metal trim panel systems.
