Poland is a big vegetable producer

Vegetable production is an important branch of Polish agriculture, and vegetables account for about 11% of the value of commercial agriculture. Poland is the largest producer of cabbage and beetroot in the European Union. Its cucumber production (second only to Spain) and potatoes (second only to Germany) rank second, and its carrot production (second only to Germany and the United Kingdom) and cauliflower production (second only to Spain and Italy) rank third. The country is the fourth largest producer of tomatoes and the fifth largest producer of onions in the EU market.

From 2015 to 2020, Poland's field vegetable production will be between 38 and 4.6 million tons. The largest share of the national harvest is cabbage, carrots and onions. The lower share is: beetroot, tomatoes, cucumbers and cauliflower.

The main customers of Polish vegetables are EU countries (especially Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands) and non-EU countries-Ukraine and Belarus. Poland mainly exports onions, tomatoes and cabbage.

The output of Polish cabbage from 2015 to 2020 is about 0.8-1 million tons, accounting for about 27% of the EU's vegetable output. Cabbage is mainly grown in the following provinces: Lesser Poland, Mazowiecki, Rodzki and Wilkopolski.

The carrot planting area is about 22,000 hectares, ranking second in the country's field vegetable planting area (after onions). The output of carrots in 2015-2020 will be between 0.7-800,000 tons. Poland remains the main producer of carrots in the EU.

Onions rank first in the area of ​​vegetable cultivation. From 2015 to 2020, the onion planting area will be at the level of 25,000-27,000 hectares. The harvest of onions is 0.5-700,000 tons, making Poland the fifth largest producer in the EU (after the Netherlands, Spain, France and Germany), accounting for 9% of EU production.
