News Briefs: Women's Connection to meet July 12

FREMONT — Fremont Area Women’s Connection will meet 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 12 at The Victor Event Center, 2270 Hayes Ave. (formerly Anjulina’s).

Area women are invited to attend the luncheon and enjoy the program “Dog Days of Summer”.  

George and Allen Dorsey will be present along with the police dogs from the Fremont City Police Department. Guest speaker is Jennifer Botkin from Winchester, Indiana, who will share her story “Jumps for Joy”.  

Cost of the luncheon is $14 and reservations are needed by July 7 by calling or texting Donna at 419-680-2251 or emailing Carrol at fawcluncheon@gmail.com. 

Reservations as well as any necessary cancellations must be reported in the same way.

FREMONT — The Ohio Department of Development and Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) will help income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months.

The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying an electric bill or assistance paying for central air conditioning repairs. The program runs July 1 to Sept. 30.

To apply for the program, clients are required to schedule an appointment with GLCAP by calling 567-432-5046 or online glcap.org/summercooling.

Clients need to bring copies of the following documents to their appointment:

• Copies of their most recent energy bills

•​​​​​​​ A list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member

•​​​​​​​ Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members

•​​​​​​​ Proof of disability (if applicable)

•​​​​​​​ Physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health (if there isn’t a household member over the age of 60).

Last year more than 580 families in four counties were assisted through the GLCAP Summer Crisis Program.

FREMONT — ProMedica Hospice will host Camp Fearless for children and adolescents who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The free bereavement day camp is open for children ages 6 to 16 and features therapeutic activities, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises led by a team of professional counselors, hospice team members and trained volunteers. 

Camp Fearless will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19 to 22 at Grace Lutheran Church. Registration is required and is open through July 4. For more information or to register, contact ProMedica Hospice at 419-547-6419, or visit promedica.org/campfearless.
