The weekend brought the first measurable snowfall to parts of the area, putting the 60-degree weather of last week firmly in the rearview mirror.

And that kind of warmth? This is followed by seasonal cold nights. In fact, the high point during the day, which was close to 70 degrees, was reduced by half overnight, and the temperature dropped to a medium-low of more than 30 degrees.

Overall, so far in November this year, the average temperature in the Lehigh Valley is 43.7 degrees, 3 degrees lower than normal. According to the Northeast Climate Center, the climate conditions in Denver at this time of year are typical.

The winter-like cold is a full pattern rollover starting in October, when the average temperature in Allentown was 4.8 degrees above normal.

The night temperature so far this month has been particularly cold, falling to more than 20 degrees five times in a row between November 3 and 7-6 to 10 degrees lower than the average temperature in the first week of the month.

If you like the cold, there are more places.

The National Weather Service said that an intensified cold front will pass through the area today, bringing mixed rain and snow showers to parts of the area.

Quite breezy weather will also bring a particularly cold day, with wind speeds around 30 to 35 mph in the afternoon. The high point during the day is expected to be in the 30s in Poconos to the 40s in Lehigh Valley, and point to the south and east.

The cool air will continue on Tuesday, but the temperature is expected to be above average on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the Meteorological Service, as the strong cold front moves on Thursday night, the main focus will shift to this weekend, and then Friday the weather will be colder and the temperature is expected to drop by 20 degrees.

The model currently shows extensive rainfall and showers in our area, and forecasters indicate that there is some potential for winter precipitation outside of Poconos ("low, but not zero").

The Meteorological Department stated that Saturday’s high temperature is unlikely to reach 50 degrees anywhere, and Poconos may not reach 40 degrees.

The outlook from the Government’s Climate Prediction Center also shows that the temperature during Thanksgiving may be lower than average.
