Richland County restaurant inspection: Serious violations between November 29 and December 1

Richland Public Health inspected the following restaurants with serious violations between November 29 and December 1:

• Athens Greek Restaurant, 43 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario, November 29. Food is not properly protected from contamination through separation, packaging and isolation (key repetition, corrected during inspection). Observe the raw eggs above the ready-to-eat food stored in the refrigerator. During the inspection, the person in charge (PIC) puts the eggs on the bottom shelf of the cooler. TCS food is not refrigerated at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection).

Observe a container of cooked pasta in a cooler with a temperature of 46 degrees. PIC voluntarily discards the pasta during the inspection. Ready-to-eat, TCS food is not properly discarded when needed (critical, corrected during inspection). A jar of homemade Mediterranean sauce was observed in the cooler, and the November 21st date sticker was used. PIC voluntarily discards the sauce during the inspection. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, and TCS foods are not properly dated (critical, corrected during inspection). An open pack of hot dogs was observed in the cooler without a date stamp. PIC voluntarily discards hot dogs during inspections. 

• McDonald's-Richland Mall # 3350, 666 Lexington Springmill Road, Mansfield, November 29. Food is not properly protected from contamination through separation, packaging and isolation (critical, corrected during inspection). Open the food in the refrigerator. PIC correction.

• Keat's Coffee Ltd., 335 Glessner Ave., Mansfield, November 30. Manual washing liquid is not maintained at 110 degrees or above (serious, correct during inspection). The temperature of the washing water solution during the inspection was 106 degrees. PIC adds hot water to make the solution temperature reach 112 degrees. Insufficient water source and/or hot water capacity (serious). During the inspection, the temperature of the water delivered to the three compartment sinks was 106 degrees. It was discussed that the minimum temperature required for the three-compartment sink is 110* degrees. Corrected until December 7.

• Mifflin Elementary, 441 Reed Road, Mansfield, November 30. Food contact surfaces are not easy to clean (critical, corrected during inspection). It was observed that the spatula stored in the drawer was discolored and no longer looked smooth and cleanable. PIC is discarded voluntarily.

• Speedway #9183, 907 Springmill St., Mansfield, November 30. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner that they are responsible for reporting their health information (critical, corrected during inspection). There is no sickness agreement for employees present and working. PIC allows employees to read and sign during inspections. Food is not properly protected from contamination through separation, packaging and isolation (critically, corrected during inspection).

Unpacked apples in the customer self-service area. PIC has been discontinued. Food is not properly protected from contamination through separation, packaging and isolation (critically, corrected during inspection). Raw shell eggs are stored above the ready-to-eat food in the walk-in freezer. PIC moved the eggs. 

• Ontario Stingel Elementary, 416 Shelby Ontario Road, Mansfield, December 1. Insufficient (serious) air gap between the flooding edge and the water supply inlet. During the inspection, the spray hose in the washroom was hung below the edge of the floodplain. The air gap between the edge of the flood level of sanitary ware and the water supply inlet shall not be less than one inch. Corrected until December 15.
